R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 99th birthday is truly a special reason for
celebration, and on February 19, 2005, Anita Chapa of El Paso is
marking this significant event in her life in the company of her
loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brownsville, she was the first of 11
children; when she was six or seven years old, her family moved
across the Rio Grande to Matamoros, where she lived for the next two
decades; and
WHEREAS, In 1932, this delightful lady met the love of her
life, Antonio Chapa, and they were married on December 29, 1935, and
moved back to Brownsville; the pair shared an enduring union based
on mutual love, trust, and respect for 48 years, until Mr. Chapa's
passing in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Chapa's hard work set a fine example for her
five children, all of whom have achieved notable success in their
endeavors; Jose Antonio retired as a major in the U.S. Army and now
is director of training at a San Antonio flight training center;
Marianita is a doctor who served as national director of education
and vice president of LULAC; Rita has a master's degree and is an
educator in the Rio Grande Valley; Reymundo is an army veteran and a
parole officer in the Valley; and Albina is a consultant working to
aid people in colonias in the El Paso area; and
WHEREAS, Accomplished at sewing, Mrs. Chapa was a seamstress
while her children were growing up, and she supplemented the family
income as an Avon representative for more than 3-1/2 decades; and
WHEREAS, Grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of nine,
Anita Chapa brings much happiness into the lives of her family and
friends, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring her at this time;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby heartily congratulate Anita Chapa on the joyous
occasion of her 99th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Chapa as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
