R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and good friends celebrate the life and mourn the passing of William Holland Rutherford, Jr., of El Paso, who died on July 25, 2004, at the age of 77; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rutherford was born on May 14, 1927, and began a nearly 30-year tenure with the U.S. Armed Forces when he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II; he switched to the U.S. Army and served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the military in 1971 as a command sergeant major; and WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, he was a patrol sergeant with the El Paso County Sheriff's Department before becoming the first chief of police for the newly incorporated Horizon City, a position he held until his retirement 10 years later; and WHEREAS, This community-minded individual was actively involved with a number of civic organizations, each of which greatly benefited from his participation; a charter and life member of VFW Post 10354 and a member of American Legion Post 0598, he also gave of his time and talents to Lions and Kiwanis Clubs, the El Maida Shrine Temple, and John T.
