R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Mamie McKnight is being honored on February 22,
2005, with the Profiles in Leadership Award of the Southern
Methodist University Women's Symposium for her exemplary service to
the Dallas community; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1966 by Emmie V. Baine, SMU's first dean
of women, the SMU Women's Symposium strives to educate women to
attain social and political leadership positions; each year, the
symposium brings together a wide range of representatives from the
community to discuss issues important to their lives; and
WHEREAS, The Profiles in Leadership Awards were initiated in
2000 at the 35th Annual Women's Symposium to recognize those
individuals who have advanced the cause of women in the Dallas area;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. McKnight has been recognized for her significant
contributions to preserving the heritage of African Americans in
Dallas through her tireless efforts in support of Black Dallas
Remembered, Inc., as well as her notable career of community
service; and
WHEREAS, A positive role model in the Dallas community, Dr.
McKnight has inspired countless women to embrace their proud
heritage, and her noble efforts are an example to us all; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mamie McKnight for receiving
the Profiles in Leadership Award from the SMU Women's Symposium and
commend her for her commitment to community service; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. McKnight as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
