R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 45th anniversary of the Johnson County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair offers a fitting opportunity to recognize the many positive attributes of this special event; and WHEREAS, Hundreds of people between the ages of 8 and 18 participate in the livestock show and fair each year; over 1,100 entries in such categories as beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, goats, poultry, and rabbits are submitted in the livestock competition; last year, the livestock auction netted more than $325,000, with the grand champion steer fetching a hefty $7,000; and WHEREAS, More than 300 youth participate in an array of fair events, including clothing, baking, canned goods, arts, crafts, creative stitches, and photography; this year will also feature, for the first time, a mechanics show for metalworking and woodworking pieces; and WHEREAS, Another notable feature of the event is that four memorial scholarships in amounts up to $1,000 will be awarded: the Jo Marti Memorial Heifer Showmanship Scholarship, the Bradley Johnson Memorial Scholarship, the Crystal Lilley Memorial Scholarship, and the Kristopher Thetford Memorial Scholarship; and WHEREAS, The Johnson County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair has been a positive influence in the lives of young Texans for 45 years, and this special endeavor truly merits commendation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the 45th annual Johnson County Junior Livestock Show and Youth Fair and extend to its organizers and participants sincere best wishes for a successful and memorable event.
