R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Carol Sue Gibbs has been named the 2004 Woman of the Year by the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture in recognition of her exceptional service to her fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, A native of Bay City, Ms. Gibbs graduated from Bay City High School and earned a degree in education from Texas A&M University; she taught in Matagorda for 16 years, working primarily with first-grade students, and has served for the past 10 years as a librarian at John H. Cherry Elementary School; her deep dedication to children has been readily evident in the time she has spent mentoring students during her lunch period and showing them, after school, how to plant a garden; and WHEREAS, This public-spirited woman is also active in the Matagorda County Historical Commission and the Matagorda County Genealogical Society; she has conducted research to identify Gold Star Mothers and helped to organize lists of veterans buried in local cemeteries; in addition, she has worked with the D.A.R. and prepared powerful presentations on World War II and Vietnam; and WHEREAS, An accomplished pianist and organist, Ms. Gibbs has shared her musical talents often with the congregants of First Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful and supportive member for 37 years; and WHEREAS, For her myriad endeavors, Ms. Gibbs has been awarded both the Commendation and Citizenship medals and received designation as the 2004 Teacher of the Year by VFW Post 2438 and the VFW District of Texas; and WHEREAS, The residents of Bay City and Matagorda County have benefited greatly from the skills, energy, and commitment that Carol Sue Gibbs has brought to her work and varied interests, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Carol Sue Gibbs on her selection as 2004 Woman of the Year by the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and extend to her sincere appreciation for her outstanding civic efforts; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Gibbs as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
