H.R. No. 302


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, April 16, 2004, was truly a special day for San Angelo residents Horace and Alto West as they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their family; and WHEREAS, Mr. West and the former Alto Turpin were united in matrimony on April 16, 1939, in Pecos and have since enjoyed a marriage filled with love, trust, and mutual respect; the Wests have watched with great pride as their family has grown to include two daughters, Dr. Charlene Gilbert and Sujane Baker, and four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, The Wests lived in Fort Stockton, Fort Worth, and Dublin before moving to Rankin in 1953; Mr. West was employed by Halliburton until his retirement in 1970, and later, after the couple's move to San Angelo, he worked for Angelo Truck and Tractor and Angelo State University; and WHEREAS, While residing in Rankin, both proudly served the local hospital, he on the board of directors and she with the hospital auxiliary; in addition, Mr. West has enjoyed a 50-year affiliation with the Masonic Lodge, and Mrs. West is a valued member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and WHEREAS, Congregants of Harris Avenue Baptist Church in San Angelo, the Wests have been involved in the religious community throughout their marriage; Mrs. West taught junior girls Sunday school for 47 years and Harris Avenue Baptist Church kindergarten for 23 years; Mr. West has served as a deacon in the Baptist church since 1941, and both have participated in church choirs for decades; and WHEREAS, The enduring union of Horace and Alto West remains a continual source of inspiration to the family and many friends with whom they have shared the richness of their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Horace and Alto West on their 65th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. West as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
