R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The future of Texas depends largely on its children, for the challenges of tomorrow will be met by the youth of today; and WHEREAS, Texans Care For Children is a nonpartisan, nonprofit network of individuals and organizations that advocates for the care and protection of children and youth in the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, The organization evolved from a small network of affiliates originally known as the CARE Coalition, which was founded in 1985 when the current board chair, Phil Strickland, was asked to create a clearinghouse that would collect and coordinate the vast amounts of information about issues relevant to the children of Texas as well as to advocate for them; and WHEREAS, For many years, the CARE Coalition provided an effective forum for sharing ideas and information relating to the mental, physical, social, and economic needs of children; with growing interest from organizations across the state and a number of notable successes in furthering its cause, the coalition incorporated in 1996 as Texans Care For Children; and WHEREAS, Texans Care is currently the only multi-issue advocacy organization working toward improving the lives of children across the state; its Coalition Council of member organizations and individuals empowers Texans Care to mobilize broad communities of influence to find common solutions to the challenges facing our youth; and WHEREAS, The dedication of a special day to discuss critical issues affecting young Texans and to strengthen and renew our shared commitment to securing and ensuring the happiness and well-being of the children of this state is indeed a worthwhile endeavor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2005, as Children's Advocacy Day and commend Texans Care For Children for its significant contributions to the young people of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Texans Care For Children as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
