R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, February 25, 2005, is an auspicious date indeed for the more than one million Texans of Czech descent, as it marks the grand opening of the Czech Cultural Center Houston; and WHEREAS, Located in a beautiful Baroque building in Houston's internationally famous Museum District, the center is well suited to its purpose of providing a central focus for Czech/Slovak life in the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, Built entirely with private funds, the center is an ideal showcase for the dazzling range and richness of the art, music, literature, and scholarship of Bohemia, Moravia, Slovakia, and Silesia; it will serve as a clearinghouse for endeavors such as genealogical research and will award three annual scholarships to deserving students; and WHEREAS, The influence of Czech culture on the history of the Lone Star State is obvious to any scholar of Texas, and with the creation of the Czech Cultural Center Houston, this proud legacy has found a suitably elegant expression; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the Czech Cultural Center Houston and extend to all those associated with the center sincere best wishes for every success in the future.
