H.R. No. 373
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Generations of Texans mourn the loss and treasure
their memories of Clementina B. Marmolejo, an exceptional educator
and beloved individual who passed away on January 29, 2005, at the
age of 85; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Marmolejo was born on November
23, 1919, in San Diego; she embarked on her notable career in the
1930s, teaching the children of area ranchers in a one-room
schoolhouse near her hometown; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of some four decades, Mrs. Marmolejo
worked with hundreds of students in San Diego and Alice; this
dynamic instructor set high standards regarding academics and
behavior and watched with pride as her students met those
challenges; with the solid foundation gained from her tutelage,
many have gone on to successful careers of their own; and
WHEREAS, Named to Who's Who in American Colleges and
Universities in 1942-1943 and to the Alpha Chi Honor Society, Mrs.
Marmolejo also earned the Beta Pi Achievement Award and, in
1977-1978, received the first Teacher of the Year award; her
affiliations included the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
and the Texas State Teachers Association; and
WHEREAS, A 54-year member of the Catholic Daughters of
America, she also served her fellow congregants as a lector,
monitor, and Eucharistic minister; moreover, she served on the
board of St. Joseph Catholic Church and directed church choirs at
St. Joseph, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Sacred Heart; and
WHEREAS, She and her husband, the late Noe Jaime Marmolejo,
were blessed with two sons, and their family now includes four
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Clementina Marmolejo enriched the lives of
countless individuals, and her dedication to her family, her
students, and her community will long be remembered by all who were
fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clementina B.
Marmolejo and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:
to her sons, Noe Javier Marmolejo and Armin Tadeo Marmolejo; to her
grandchildren, Andres, Hailey, McKenna, and Miles Marmolejo; to her
sister, Carmen B. Oliveira; and to her many other relatives and
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clementina
B. Marmolejo.
