H.R. No. 374
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Travis Pollok of Falls City has
rendered valiant service in Iraq as a member of the United States
Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, A 1999 graduate of Falls City High School, Corporal
Pollok joined the marines in December 2002, motivated by a longtime
interest in the military and a desire to take positive action after
the attacks of September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, After eight weeks of infantry training, he deployed
to Iraq for three months in the summer of 2003, during which time
his unit was posted to Fallujah; at the end of that stint, he
enjoyed a respite of some months back at Camp Pendleton,
California; when the request came down for volunteers to return to
Iraq, however, Corporal Pollok stepped forward without hesitation,
and he shipped out for a second tour in September 2004; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine
Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Corporal Pollok was sent once more
to Fallujah; there, he and the other members of his company were
chiefly responsible for guarding the highways where most of the
insurgent attacks had been taking place; during this deployment,
Corporal Pollok served as an infantry fire-team leader, a position
that put him on the front line in combat situations; and
WHEREAS, On November 15, 2004, Corporal Pollok's squad was
conducting a mission with two other units when one of those groups
became pinned down by an enemy barrage; going to the assistance of
that squad, Corporal Pollok was hit four times by insurgent fire;
and
WHEREAS, Seriously injured, he was evacuated to Germany, then
to Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland, and still later to
Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, where he has been
undergoing physical therapy; and
WHEREAS, Notwithstanding the hardships and risks that
military forces endure in wartime, Corporal Pollok has performed
his work with pride and professionalism, his steadfast commitment
made all the more firm by his strong desire to help the Iraqi
people; and
WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor,
and this country, Travis Pollok has embodied the highest ideals of
the U.S. armed forces, and it is indeed a privilege to join in
welcoming this brave Texan home again; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Lance Corporal Travis Pollok for his
courageous service as a U.S. Marine and extend to him sincere best
wishes for his continuing recovery; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Corporal Pollok as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
