R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Texas is known for the richness and variety of its
agricultural bounty, and the grapefruit and other citrus fruit
grown in and around Mission are important contributors to the
state's renown; and
WHEREAS, Mission was designated the Lone Star State's Home of
the Grapefruit by the 75th Texas Legislature, and its residents
take justifiable pride in their position as an important
agricultural center; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Citrus Fiesta, a Rio Grande Valley
tradition since 1932, has become a major cultural and recreational
event in the area; and
WHEREAS, Including such entertaining events as the
coronation of King Citrus and Queen Citrianna and a fashion
exhibition of costumes constructed entirely of cunningly
transformed Valley agricultural products, the Texas Citrus Fiesta
also includes a Parade of Oranges that is enjoyed by thousands from
the United States and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, The combination of agricultural abundance and
vibrant community spirit that leads to the continuing success of
the Texas Citrus Fiesta is a notable example of what is great about
the Rio Grande Valley, and this celebration is truly deserving of
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor all those associated with the Texas Citrus
Fiesta for their efforts in maintaining this cultural institution
and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success.
