R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving moments, and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Dr. George Nathan Aldredge, Jr., of Dallas, who passed away on February 1, 2005; and WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on September 4, 1916, this descendant of Texas pioneer families grew up in Dallas and attended The Terrell School; he earned his bachelor of science degree from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1939 and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1942; on December 27, 1941, Dr. Aldredge married the love of his life, the former Jeanne Chadbourne; and WHEREAS, After serving as a doctor in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines and earning the rank of captain, Dr. Aldredge performed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; in 1951, he began his private practice in Dallas, where he continued his successful career until his retirement in 1985; and WHEREAS, Dr. Aldredge gave generously of his time and energy to the field of medicine; he served as chief of staff at St. Paul Hospital in 1959 and taught emergency medicine at Southwestern Medical School; moreover, he was an active member of the Dallas County Medical Society, whose auxiliary is headquartered in Dr. Aldredge's boyhood home on Swiss Avenue, and he belonged to the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons; and WHEREAS, After retirement, Dr. Aldredge continued a life of service working with Tapings for the Blind and Meals on Wheels; a devoted Catholic, he and his wife hosted and participated in countless religious discussion groups; in his leisure time, Dr. Aldredge enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife, and he was an accomplished photographer, ham radio operator, enthusiastic world traveler, and fan of Big Band Jazz, particularly the music of Benny Goodman; and WHEREAS, Although this remarkable individual will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. George Nathan Aldredge, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Chadbourne Aldredge; to his sons, George Aldredge, Vaughn Aldredge and his wife, Jamie, Christopher Aldredge and his wife, Cindy, Mark Aldredge and his wife, Laurie, Thom Aldredge and his wife, Trish, John Aldredge and his wife, Lydia, and Matthew Aldredge and his wife, Alison; to his daughters, Virginia Pellegrini and Anne Aldredge; to his 21 grandchildren; to his four great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. George Nathan Aldredge, Jr. Goolsby ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
