H.R. No. 395
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Eric Wilson and Mr. Samuel Cook of Abilene were
program participants at the Texas Prayer Breakfast program in
Austin, Texas, on February 17, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson presented a moving rendition of "Just a
Closer Walk With Thee" as a master tenor saxophone artist and Mr.
Cook offered a magnificent solo rendition of "The Lord's Prayer";
and
WHEREAS, They each received the accolades of more than 600
state officials and other special guests including the governor of
Texas, the speaker of the house, and members of the Texas Senate and
House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson is a renowned saxophonist who is married
to the lovely Lynette Wilson; he is currently the director of bands
and associate professor of conducting and saxophone at Abilene
Christian University, which includes conducting ACU's "Big Purple"
Marching Band and Wind Ensemble; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has performed with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, San
Angelo Symphony, and Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, among others;
he has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts,
Texas Commission on the Arts, Abilene Cultural Affairs Council,
Vienna Modern Masters International Recording Competition, and
various other honors, and he has recently released his first solo
album, Near to the Heart of God; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cook is a renowned operatic and concert vocalist
who is married to the lovely Jean Cook; he attended the Peabody
Conservatory of Music and is currently an associate professor of
voice and artist-in-residence at Abilene Christian University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cook has performed with the Western Opera
Theater; the State Opera of Kassel in Kassel, Germany; the New
Orleans Opera; and the Abilene Opera; and has won numerous
prestigious international voice competitions, including first
prizes in Francisco Vines, in Barcelona, Spain; Francisco Andrade,
in Porto, Portugal; and Metropolitan Opera competition; and third
prize in Munich's international music competition; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize Dr. Eric Wilson and Mr. Samuel Cook
for sharing their outstanding musical talents as program
participants at the Texas Prayer Breakfast on February 17, 2005;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Wilson and Mr. Cook as an expression of high regard
from the Texas House of Representatives.
