No. 396R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Mario Pena, head coach of the San Benito High School football team, has been named All-Valley Coach of the Year by the sports staff of the Valley Morning Star after leading the San Benito Greyhounds to an undefeated regular season; and WHEREAS, With a doctrine of hard work, discipline, and team unity, he encourages his athletes to think of football as a privilege, one that requires dedication and commitment in order to succeed; and WHEREAS, In Coach Pena's first season at San Benito in 2003, his unique coaching style helped the Greyhounds to increase their victories twofold over the year before; by 2004, the team was undefeated in the regular season, won the District 32-5A title and two playoff games, and ended with a 12-1 season; and WHEREAS, Mario Pena is a veteran coach who has previously seen successes as head coach for La Joya High School and as assistant coach for Sharyland High School; he consistently sets standards of excellence for himself and his players, and it is indeed appropriate to recognize him for his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Mario Pena on being named All-Valley Coach of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Pena as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
