R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of
death amongst Texans since 1940; and
WHEREAS, Every hour over six Texans die from cardiovascular
disease; and
WHEREAS, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death
for Texas women since 2001; and
WHEREAS, Cardiac death in women age 35 to 44 has increased
more than 20 percent in the last decade; and
WHEREAS, Of all female cardiovascular deaths, 12 percent will
occur in women under the age of 65; and
WHEREAS, Sixty-three percent of women who die suddenly of
coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms of this disease;
and
WHEREAS, The total average hospital charges for
cardiovascular disease amongst women is $813,134,383; and
WHEREAS, The American Heart Association has launched a
campaign designated to raise women's awareness of the magnitude of
cardiovascular disease as "Go Red for Women"; and
WHEREAS, February is designated as American Heart Month; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby declare the month of February Texas Women's
Heart Month in the State of Texas.
