R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The week of May 1-7, 2005, has been designated as Brain Tumor Action Week by the North American Brain Tumor Coalition, and this occasion draws much-needed attention to the human cost of brain tumors; and WHEREAS, More than 200,000 people in North America are diagnosed with brain tumors each year, and brain tumors are now the leading cause of solid-tumor cancer death in children and are the third leading cause of cancer death in young adults; and WHEREAS, Because there are more than 120 different types of brain tumors, effective treatment can be difficult, and it is made more so by the delicate position of the tumors at the body's center of thought, emotion, and movement; and WHEREAS, Enhancing the quality of life of people with brain tumors requires access to high-quality specialty care, clinical trials, follow-up care, and rehabilitative services; and WHEREAS, The dedicated health professionals who seek to treat brain tumors require complete and accurate data on the nature of this devastating malady, and public awareness of this pressing issue is essential to garner support for desperately needed research; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize May 1-7, 2005, as Brain Tumor Action Week and extend to all those associated with this endeavor sincere best wishes for success in their worthwhile efforts.
