R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Ana Maria Gardea Cano on January 20, 2005, at the age of 82, has brought deep sadness to the family and friends of this beloved woman; and WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Tornillo, she became the wife of Jesus Cano, with whom she shared many wonderful years; the couple were blessed with two children and together opened a successful store, the Tornillo Trading Post, which became a popular meeting place in the community and where "Ani" developed her reputation as a marvelous cook and special friend to many; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cano was nurtured by a strong religious faith, and she was an esteemed member of Santa Rita Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Ani Cano gave generously to those around her and left them with a legacy of love and compassion by which to remember her; although her presence is gone from us now, her spirit will live on in the hearts of the many people who were fortunate to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ana Maria Gardea Cano and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Graciela Cano Quintanilla and her husband, State Representative Chente Quintanilla; to her son, Jesus Cano and his wife, Bertha; to her grandchildren, Molly Ruttle and her husband, Chris, Sally Upchurch, Yvonne Flores and her husband, Alonzo, Yvette Quintanilla and her husband, Daniel, Chris Cano and his wife, Shanna, and Brian Cano and his wife, Virginia; to her great-grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Ashley, Allison, Daniel, Brandyn, Brittany, Jarred, Matthew, Lawrence, and Gabe and his wife, Andrea; to her great-great-granddaughter, Sheala; to her brother, Ted Gardea; to her sisters, Mague Zavala, Celia Ronquillo, and Alicia Hernandez; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ana Maria Gardea Cano.
