R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Paula Lopez-Villanueva of Weslaco has successfully made the journey from migrant worker to small-business owner through hard work, determination, and vision; and WHEREAS, Emigrating from Nuevo Progreso, Mexico, to Weslaco in 1979 at the age of 14, Ms. Lopez-Villanueva developed her strong work ethic at a young age working with her family in vegetable fields across the United States until the age of 25; and WHEREAS, Recognizing that furthering her education would enable her to provide more for her four children, this resourceful young woman enrolled at South Texas Community College and, two years later, earned an associate's degree in accounting; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lopez-Villanueva excelled in her new job as an office manager for a sign company, but longed to go into business for herself; with the love and support of her husband, Santos Villanueva, she turned this dream into a reality and opened All-Valley Waste, a trash collection service for small subdivisions, colonias, and rural areas not serviced by city contracts; and WHEREAS, The company has since thrived, increasing its customer base from two to more than 800 in the course of a single year, and with plans to increase services, All-Valley Waste will undoubtedly continue to prosper in the future; and WHEREAS, Paula Lopez-Villanueva has worked hard to own and operate her own business, which in turn provides an important service to many people in underserved areas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Paula Lopez-Villanueva on her achievements as a small-business owner and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Lopez-Villanueva as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
