H.R. No. 451
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jack and Cammy Garey of Williamson County have
promised a priceless gift to the city of Georgetown that will
undoubtedly benefit generations of Texans to come; and
WHEREAS, The Garey Ranch encompasses 525 acres of unspoiled
Central Texas countryside, including more than a mile of frontage
along the South San Gabriel River, which provides an incomparable
sanctuary for deer, turkeys, and other wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Garey pledged the donation of their
land to the city for use as a park as well as a most generous
matching grant for park amenities, thus ensuring countless future
visitors to the ranch the opportunity to enjoy the same unfettered
natural beauty that the couple enjoys today; and
WHEREAS, Garey Park is certain to be one of the area's most
breathtaking public facilities and will feature hike and bike
trails, camping sites, sports fields, and swimming holes; the
Italian-villa-style home, which will become known as the Garey
House, will provide a majestic setting for weddings and other
special events; and
WHEREAS, The generosity of Jack and Cammy Garey will further
enhance Georgetown's reputation as an attractive community in which
to live, and the gently rolling hills and scenic vistas of Garey
Ranch will provide area residents with access to unsurpassed
natural splendor throughout the coming years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Jack and Cammy Garey for their remarkable
altruism in behalf of the city of Georgetown and commend them for
their steadfast commitment to preserving the superlative Central
Texas landscape; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Garey as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
