R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of Wilma Blanton Avalos
of Dallas have made the city of Dallas a better place to live, work,
and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 14, 1943, Ms. Avalos graduated from
South Oak Cliff High School and Draughon's Business College; she
has served as precinct chair and election judge for Precinct 4443
for many years; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, Ms. Avalos and her husband received the
news that their oldest son was deaf; in her quest to help her son,
she became involved in championing the rights of handicapped
children and their access to quality education, and she continues
to work to help children with special needs; and
WHEREAS, After the death of her husband in 1992, Ms. Avalos
took over the family business for several years before passing the
responsibility to her sons; in 1994, she started the Love Field West
Nonprofit Crime Watch Association and has served as the
organization's chair since its founding; and
WHEREAS, Wilma Avalos is a loving and devoted mother and
grandmother, and cherishes the time she spends with her three
children and four grandchildren; her tireless work in behalf of her
community is truly inspiring, and it is appropriate to recognize
her for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Wilma Blanton Avalos for her contributions
to her community and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Avalos as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
