H.R. No. 489
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lucille Maes of Angleton has received the
Administrator Award from the Texas Department of State Health
Services for her outstanding performance as director of the
Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps; and
WHEREAS, The prestigious award was presented to Ms. Maes
during the Texas EMS Conference in Austin on November 23, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Director of Angleton's emergency medical corps
since 1995, Ms. Maes has established new programs, set a high
standard of patient care, and ushered her unit to the forefront of
EMS organizations in Texas; the Angleton group received the EMS
Volunteer Provider Award at the 2002 Texas EMS Conference and the
Public Information/Injury Prevention Award at the 2004 meeting; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Maes became a licensed paramedic by attending
school at night while holding down an office job by day and also
serving on an ambulance crew; this skilled, far-sighted leader has
established a network of local agencies that meets quarterly to
plan for potential health-care emergencies in Brazoria County, and
she played an instrumental role in helping the Angleton Danbury
Medical Center to become a Level 4 trauma center; and
WHEREAS, Engaged in a host of civic endeavors, Ms. Maes
serves as a chamber of commerce ambassador and as a member of
committees that support the work of the police department and the
school district; in addition, she strives to make the Angleton
community a safer place in which to live, work, and raise a family
by promoting public awareness of EMS and safety issues and by
fostering relationships with the Angleton Volunteer Fire
Department and Memorial Hermann Life Flight air ambulance service;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Maes initiated the request for legislation that
resulted in the Move Over Act passed by the 78th Texas Legislature;
this measure requires drivers to slow down and move over when
emergency personnel are working on the side of the road and has
created a much safer environment for first responders and law
enforcement officers; and
WHEREAS, Unwavering in her commitment to the welfare of her
fellow Texans, Ms. Maes takes ambulance calls day and night, in
addition to handling myriad administrative duties; her exemplary
efforts are an inspiration to all who know her, and it is a pleasure
to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lucille Maes on her receipt of the
2004 EMS Administrator Award from the Texas Department of State
Health Services and extend to her heartfelt wishes for continued
success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Maes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
