R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Irving owe a tremendous debt to
Morris and Marge Parrish for their exceptional achievements in
behalf of their adopted hometown these past 32 years; and
WHEREAS, Sharing a mutual passion for historical
preservation, Mr. and Mrs. Parrish are charter members of the
Irving Heritage Society, which Mrs. Parrish led as president from
1985 to 1987; this dynamic woman played a crucial role in
establishing Heritage Park and was the moving force behind the
purchase of the depot that became the focal point of the park,
reinforcing Irving's identity as an early railroad town; she also
helped plan the Bear Creek Heritage Center, hired the city's first
community development coordinator, and brought to fruition the
publication of the city's first published history; and
WHEREAS, Widely respected for their strong leadership and
commitment to the city, Mr. and Mrs. Parrish both served on a task
force that worked to revitalize and raise the visibility of the
downtown district; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as administrator of Irving
Community Hospital, Mr. Parrish guided that institution through
many important stages and was instrumental in the development of
the Irving Healthcare Foundation; subsequently, as mayor of Irving
from 1995 to 1999, he oversaw the establishment of a Sister Cities
program with Leon, Mexico, as well as a business relationship with
Espoo, Finland; in addition, this esteemed gentleman enriched the
city through his projects for the development of parks and public
art; and
WHEREAS, The Parrishes are active congregants of Plymouth
Park Baptist Church, where Mr. Parrish is a deacon and both have
taught Sunday school classes; they have also participated in
constructing a church in Maceio, Brazil; and
WHEREAS, Morris and Marge Parrish may take great pride in
knowing that their extraordinary contributions have made Irving a
better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby heartily commend Morris and Marge Parrish for
their myriad accomplishments in behalf of their fellow Irving
residents, and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
success and good fortune in their future endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Parrish as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
