H.R. No. 504


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dale and Stella Schenk of Dallas have demonstrated great generosity, foresight, and civic leadership with their support of the efforts of the Ferguson Road Initiative (FRI) to create economic development and enhance law enforcement within the lower Ferguson Road corridor; and WHEREAS, Distressed by crime, gang activity, urban blight, retail abandonment, poor school performance, and diminishing property values, area leaders united in October 1995 in hopes of bringing the entire community together to create a shared vision and a proactive plan to revitalize the area; the mission of the FRI is to transform the Ferguson Road corridor into a safe, attractive, and prosperous community; and WHEREAS, Active members of the FRI Weed and Seed Steering Committee since 1999, Dale and Stella Schenk purchased and rehabilitated the old Cambridge Square Shopping Center on Ferguson Road and restored the building to its original capacity; and WHEREAS, The Schenks have also generously donated office space to the FRI Police Kiosk, where the FRI Crime Prevention Specialist, Inter Active Community Policing unit, and Dallas Police Department bike patrols are housed; moreover, they have provided meeting space for the FRI Public Safety Task Force, thereby supporting crime prevention initiatives that have subsequently reduced crime and benefited the FRI community; and WHEREAS, Dale and Stella Schenk have played an important role in the revitalization of the Ferguson Road corridor, and their continuing efforts will undoubtedly produce results of lasting benefit to area Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize Dale and Stella Schenk for their ongoing support of the Ferguson Road Initiative and commend them as exemplary community leaders; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Schenk as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
