H.R. No. 505


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement of the Greater Tyler Area has justly recognized Elmer G. Ellis, president and CEO of the East Texas Medical Center Regional Health Care System (ETMC), by inducting him into the organization's Tyler Business Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, A national, nonprofit organization, Junior Achievement is committed to educating and encouraging young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics by conducting programs in public and private schools with area business and community leaders serving as mentors; and WHEREAS, The Business Hall of Fame, the organization's loftiest honor, recognizes those who have demonstrated industry vision and the ability to inspire business and community leadership and who serve as professional and civic role models; and WHEREAS, A most deserving inductee, Mr. Ellis has greatly benefited the lives of countless individuals as ETMC president and CEO, and he has earned both state and national recognition for his collaborative approach to health services, especially concerning trauma and rural health; joining the system in 1968, he assumed his current role in 1985, and under his leadership ETMC has grown into a regional network of 15 hospitals and other health facilities, programs, and services with more than 6,000 employees; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis further serves his professional community as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and presently officiates as regent of its East Texas division; moreover, he is a former chair of the Texas Hospital Association, a member of its board of directors, and board chair of its Texas Hospital Insurance Network; he also manages to find time to work with a number of notable civic organizations; and WHEREAS, The induction of Elmer Ellis into the Tyler Business Hall of Fame is indeed a testament to a man who has set a sterling example of professionalism and leadership to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Elmer G. Ellis on his acceptance into the Tyler Business Hall of Fame of Junior Achievement of the Greater Tyler Area and commend him for his service in behalf of his community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ellis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
