R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Women's Alliance (TWA) are gathering at the State Capitol on February 24, 2005, and their visit presents an ideal occasion to recognize this noteworthy organization; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1984 by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Ambassador Anne Armstrong, this statewide nonpartisan, nonprofit corporation offers its members the opportunity to articulate an independent conservative viewpoint and work together to make a difference in state affairs; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to the principle that women can make a positive impact in all levels of business and government, TWA members have addressed numerous important issues, including equal pay for equal work for women, trucking deregulation, higher education, and alternative certification for teachers; the group also helped found the Seed Capitol Network, one of the first venture capital organizations in Texas; and WHEREAS, Influential women with civic and professional experience constitute the alliance's membership, and many of these dedicated leaders serve in offices and on state boards and commissions; the TWA enables these women not only to effect change but to network and meet other women with diverse backgrounds from across the state; expanding their horizons beyond our nation's shores, coalition members have traveled to Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Hungary, and other parts of the world on trade and education missions; and WHEREAS, The dedicated members of the Texas Women's Alliance have demonstrated a steadfast interest in and knowledge of issues facing all Texans, and their efforts have been of benefit to countless residents of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 24, 2005, as Texas Women's Alliance Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to those TWA members present on this day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
