Hughes has greatly contributed to the quality of life in Cherokee County, and his efforts are truly admirable; and WHEREAS, An inspiration to many East Texas residents, he has enriched countless lives through his work with the National Meditation Center for World Peace, a community development agency that he established in 1987; and WHEREAS, Nearly two decades later, the center remains a source of encouragement and education, and its vitality is a tribute to the commitment and hard work of its founder and the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who have striven to uphold its worthy goals; and WHEREAS, Master Hughes has given further of his time and talent to the East Texas Virtual Village county task force and technology committee, Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA), and the Smith County Ministerial Alliance, and he has participated in Americorps VISTA training; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, this esteemed advocate has exemplified the finest ideals of civic leadership and public service, and in so doing, he has made many invaluable contributions to the betterment of his community and established himself as an outstanding role model for the youth of Jacksonville; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature honor Master M. J. Hughes of Jacksonville for his contributions to his community and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Master Hughes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
