R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may temper the profound sadness felt by the family and friends of A. Marvin Roscoe, Jr., of Austin, who died on February 6, 2005; and WHEREAS, A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Roscoe received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and it was while stationed at Harlingen Air Force Base that he met the woman who would become his wife of 44 years, Sara Johnston; and WHEREAS, On his return to civilian life, Mr. Roscoe began a long professional association with AT&T, where he distinguished himself as a talented market researcher and able administrator; and WHEREAS, He also continued to pursue his education, earning a master's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and completing the Advanced Marketing Management Program at the Wharton School of Business and the Advanced Executive Program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University; and WHEREAS, On his retirement from AT&T, Mr. Roscoe and his wife moved to Austin, where he quickly became a welcome presence at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and at the Austin Westlake Rotary Club; he also got involved in acting and found roles in student films, in community theater, and occasionally as a film or television extra; and WHEREAS, Also an excellent teacher who enjoyed the time he spent with students, Mr. Roscoe was an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Business Management at New York University while he was employed with AT&T, and in Austin, he was a guest lecturer at The University of Texas School of Business from 1996 to 2001; and WHEREAS, A man who put family and friends first, Marvin Roscoe truly lived a life filled with joyful times, loving moments, and meaningful accomplishments, and his legacy of service to others will long endure; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the life of A. Marvin Roscoe, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Sara; to his children and their spouses, Marie and Bob Morrison and George and Kelly Roscoe; to his grandchildren, Geordie Roscoe, Fallon Morrison, and Kerry Morrison; to his brothers, Bill Roscoe and David Roscoe; and to his other family members and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of A. Marvin Roscoe, Jr.
