R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and good friends celebrate the life of Joseph Smith, Jr., of Grand Prairie, who departed this world on February 9, 2005; and WHEREAS, Born on February 26, 1924, in Zwolle, Louisiana, Mr. Smith was baptized at an early age and his strong faith would guide and sustain him throughout his life; with the help of his parents, he embarked on a career in farming as a young man after purchasing 40 acres of land on which he established a cattle, poultry, and swine business; and WHEREAS, He went on to answer his country's call to arms and served with distinction as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946; after his military service, Mr. Smith moved to Grand Prairie, where he was employed by LTV Vought Aircraft as a lead man for 40 years until his retirement in May 1991; and WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was a devoted family man who enjoyed sharing his time and talents with young people; in his leisure time, he enjoyed boxing, cooking, fishing, and washing cars; and WHEREAS, Although he is profoundly missed by his loved ones, Mr. Smith's spirit will long endure in the hearts of all those who were fortunate to have known him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joseph Smith, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 42 years, Sallie Pugh West Smith; to his children, Joe Dean Smith and Lloyd Smith; to his stepson, John Arthur West; to his grandchildren, Chauncey Smith, Anton Smith, and Michael Smith; to his sister, Mona Wilson; to his cousins, Elta Doss and Theo Smith; to his neighbor, William Jones; to his four great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joseph Smith, Jr. Jones of Dallas ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
