R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartbreak felt by the family and friends of Lance Corporal Nazario Serrano of Irving, who lost his life in Iraq on January 30, 2005, at the age of 20; and WHEREAS, Corporal Serrano, who had served in the U.S. Marine Corps for about a year and a half, was a combat engineer assigned to Combat Service Support Battalion 1, Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton; and WHEREAS, This courageous Texan volunteered for duty in Iraq and for the past five months had been working in demolitions and clearing mines; Corporal Serrano was mortally wounded by small-arms fire in Al Anbar Province, west of Baghdad; he has been nominated for the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Irving High School, Nazario Serrano and his former high school sweetheart Amanda Story had become the parents of a fine son during Corporal Serrano's tour of duty, and he was looking forward to holding Landon Heath for the first time and becoming a family; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this country, Corporal Serrano embodied the highest ideals of the armed forces, and his valiant efforts and immeasurable sacrifice are deserving of honor by every American; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Lance Corporal Nazario Serrano and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his parents, Jose de Jesus and Maria Guadalupe Serrano; to his fiancée, Amanda Story; to his son, Landon Heath Serrano; to his brothers, Javier, Daniel, and Jesus Serrano; to his grandparents, Celeste Diaz and Bonifacio Arrellano; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lance Corporal Nazario Serrano.
