H.R. No. 559
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
of U.S. Army Specialist Jeremy Olin Allmon of Cleburne, who died in
Iraq on February 6, 2005, at the age of 22; and
WHEREAS, A member of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment,
1st Cavalry Division, Specialist Allmon was mortally wounded while
on patrol in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device was
detonated near his tank; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Allmon was a native Texan, born and
raised in Cleburne; known for his vitality and enthusiasm, he
enlisted in the Army in April 2002; and
WHEREAS, He earned a number of special military recognitions
for his courage and his steadfast devotion to duty, including the
Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, Our state and our nation are fortunate to have young
men and women whose love for their country inspires them to military
service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Americans owe a profound debt
to our nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose valiant efforts
and enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens'
deepest respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of Jeremy Olin Allmon and extend
deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his parents,
Preston and Lisa Ray; to his father, David Sullivan; to his
brothers, Preston Ray, Jr., David Sullivan, and Colton Sullivan; to
his sister, Brentney Bane; to his maternal grandmother, Betty Love;
to his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Nancy Sullivan and
Preston and Faye Ray; to his nephew, Mason Lee Bane; and to his
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
Specialist Jeremy Olin Allmon.
