R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Former Kerr County Judge William Gillespie Stacy, Jr., passed away on January 12, 2005, at the age of 78, and his loss has left a void in the lives of countless Kerr County residents; and WHEREAS, Bill Stacy was one of Kerr County's first Republican leaders; he served as Kerr County judge from 1991 to 1994, and during his tenure, he emphasized a conservative fiscal policy and avoiding raising taxes; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Tivy High School, Judge Stacy was the first male cheerleader on the school's cheerleading squad, and he remained a loyal supporter of his alma mater throughout his life; and WHEREAS, Judge Stacy proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; after returning home from the war, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, This notable civic leader enjoyed working with young people and was part-owner of Camp Rio Vista for Boys and Camp Mystic for Girls; he also owned a children's camp in Mexico and was a substitute teacher for several Hill Country schools; and WHEREAS, Active on the political scene for most of his life, Judge Stacy served as a delegate to numerous state Republican conventions; he also worked as a precinct chairman for many years and served as campaign manager for Jules Neunhoffer, who in 1958 became the first Republican county judge in Texas since the Civil War; and WHEREAS, Bill Stacy made significant contributions to Kerr County and its citizens, and although he will be missed by all who knew him, his spirit will live on in their hearts for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable William Gillespie "Bill" Stacy, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the family and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of former Kerr County Judge William Gillespie Stacy, Jr. Hilderbran ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
