H.R. No. 581
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After eight successful years of service, Mayor Leo
Montalvo of McAllen is stepping down as mayor of the city on May 7,
2005; and
WHEREAS, A partner with the law firm Montalvo and Ramirez,
Mayor Montalvo is a former educator and assistant superintendent;
he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Texas A&M
University, a master's degree in education from The University of
Texas-Pan American, and a law degree from The University of Texas at
Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Montalvo has served as a member of the McAllen
City Council since 1983 and was first elected mayor in 1997; he has
contributed greatly to the city, working for the creation of new
jobs, road improvements, and the development of state projects; and
WHEREAS, He is a member of the board of the Hidalgo County
Metropolitan Planning Organization, past director of the Texas
Municipal League Region 12, board member of the Texas Municipal
League Intergovernmental Risk Pool, and recipient of the Ford
Foundation Leadership Development Program Fellowship; and
WHEREAS, Leo Montalvo has led McAllen into a new century; his
efforts to promote the economic well-being of area residents and
his vision for a prosperous and productive future will continue to
benefit countless people for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Mayor Leo Montalvo for his contributions
to the city of McAllen and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Montalvo as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
