R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Kaufman County 4-H Program are visiting the State Capitol on March 8, 2005; and WHEREAS, A youth education program of the Texas Cooperative Extension, the initiative works in conjunction with state and county governments and extension 4-H staff to create informal opportunities for young people to enhance their education; and WHEREAS, The 4-H motto, "To make the best better," is a testament to the remarkable commitment necessary for involvement in this program; making intelligent choices, encouraging kindness and compassion, and developing a strong work ethic are among the many worthwhile values that the leaders of the 4-H Program strive to instill in their members; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the United Way of Kaufman County, the local farm bureau, and the Kaufman County Commissioners Court, the Kaufman County 4-H group is composed of some 280 members who have joined the program to learn more about leadership and citizenship while enhancing other life skills; and WHEREAS, Working in the county's seven main school districts, the 4-H Curriculum Enrichment Program has reached more than 5,000 elementary school students, helping them increase their knowledge of agriculture, healthy living choices, and character; moreover, in 2004 alone, 4-H volunteers contributed more than 5,000 hours and an estimated value of $100,000 in community service; and WHEREAS, The members of the Kaufman County 4-H Program are exceptionally civic-minded young men and women, and it is a privilege to honor them, and those who guide them, for their dedication to the ideals of this worthy program; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the 4-H Program of Kaufman County and extend to its participants a warm welcome as they visit the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
