R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 100th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and on March 5, 2005, Eusebio Perez of Dallas is marking this significant milestone in his life among his family and many admirers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Perez has witnessed many changes and marvels since his birth in 1905 in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico; he moved to the United States at the age of 17 and worked for the railroads in Mart, Texas, and Chicago before making Dallas his permanent home in 1928; this brave and adventurous young man came to America with no knowledge of its language, culture, or customs and made a life for himself here; more than 75 years later, shortly before commemorating his 94th birthday, he realized his longtime dream of becoming a United States citizen; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, he married Maria Zavala on February 11, 1926, and became the father of 10 children, Melesio, Eugene, Eusebio, Edmund, Delfino, Serapio, Elvira, Leonor, Sophia, and Hortensia; over the years, he has shared his love and wisdom with 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Perez has worked hard over the decades to support his large family, migrating north for farm work every summer and holding 20-year-long tenures with both the Lone Star Cement Company and the Streets and Sanitation Department of the City of Dallas before his retirement in 1979; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Eusebio Perez has earned the respect and admiration of all who know him; a valued member of his community, Mr. Perez has always led by example, providing his loved ones with a happy and secure home, while sharing with them many important life lessons, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a life well lived; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Eusebio Perez on his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
