H.R. No. 598
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving
moments, and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and
friends of Lena Robertson, who passed away on June 6, 2004, at the
age of 90; and
WHEREAS, An East Texas native, Mrs. Robertson was born on
February 5, 1914, in Goodsprings, and graduated from high school in
Henderson; she earned a bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin
State Teachers College in 1941 and received a master's degree from
the same institution in 1949; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Robertson taught during the 1941-1942 academic
year in Sulphur Springs, and in the fall of 1942, in Price, she
embarked on a noteworthy career with the Carlisle Independent
School District; during her time with Carlisle she taught
Representative Chuck Hopson in one of her third-grade classes; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed teacher was inducted into Delta Kappa
Gamma Society International, an honorary group for women educators;
in addition to her dedicated work with hundreds of young students,
she served her community through her membership in the Henderson
Rebekah Lodge; and
WHEREAS, The former Lena Clark married Kermit Leroy Robertson
in 1945, and the couple shared much joy until Mr. Robertson's
passing in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Lena Robertson was a blessing in the lives of
countless people, and she will long be fondly remembered by all who
treasured her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Lena
Robertson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:
to her daughter, Margaret Ann; to her grandchildren, Donna Lynne,
Julie Ann, and Lisa Kay; to her great-grandchildren, Brittany Ann,
Shelby Nicole, and Lillia Hope; and to her other relatives and many
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lena
Robertson.
