H.R. No. 625


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Olga H. Maldonado has been named chief of the Mercedes Police Department, the first woman to achieve that position in Mercedes and one of the first in the Valley; and WHEREAS, Chief Maldonado was also the city's first female patrol officer and captain and has an accomplished tenure with the department; she is the recipient of a 2003 proclamation from the Mercedes City Commission and a special commendation from the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorney, Southern District of Texas; before becoming a police officer, she was a municipal court clerk and police dispatcher; and WHEREAS, In addition to her service with the police department, Chief Maldonado has contributed to the residents of her city by heading the annual Christmas toy drive, helping to prepare Thanksgiving food baskets for the less fortunate, working closely with the Mercedes Explorer program, and speaking at career days; and WHEREAS, Olga Maldonado embodies the highest ideals of her noble profession, and her dedication to the city of Mercedes is truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Olga H. Maldonado on being named the Mercedes chief of police and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Chief Maldonado as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
