R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Steve and Caroline Hicks of Cedarcrest Farm in
Palestine achieved an impressive success in the sport of horse
racing when Capote's Prospect was named the leading third-crop sire
in the State of Texas for 2004; and
WHEREAS, Third-crop honors are based on the combined earnings
of a stallion's first three crops, which consist of foals from his
first three breeding seasons; an 11-year-old stallion from the
family of the 1977 Triple Crown winner, Seattle Slew, Capote's
Prospect is co-owned by Dr. Hicks and Michael Barnett of Dallas and
cared for at Cedarcrest Farm; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Thoroughbred Association is the largest
state breed organization of its kind in the country, and each year
it provides incentive awards for Texas owners and breeders through
its Accredited Texas-Bred Program; and
WHEREAS, More than 52,000 Texans make their living in the
state's horse racing and breeding industry, and it is a pleasure to
recognize this outstanding Thoroughbred and its owners and
caretakers at Cedarcrest Farm; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Steve and Caroline Hicks on the
naming of Capote's Prospect as the leading third-crop sire in the
State of Texas for 2004; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Hicks as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
