R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The St. Edward's University Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi groups offer participating students and the members of their audiences exciting performances that showcase traditional Mexican dance and music; and WHEREAS, Established in 2002, the Ballet Folklorico has appeared in Roy Lozano's Noche de Folklorico Summer Show at the Zilker Hillside Theatre, John Aielli's Holiday Sing-Along and Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony, North Texas Folklorico Competition, Plaza Saltillo Grito de Independencia, Our Lady of the Lake University Las Posadas, as well as at Austin area schools and St. Edward's University; it also serves as a goodwill ambassador to Mexico and has performed in Monterrey and Oaxaca City; and WHEREAS, The St. Edward's University Mariachi group, a sister organization of the Ballet Folklorico, was formed in 2004; over the past year, it has performed for Senator Jeff Wentworth's Governor for a Day at the State Capitol and for Austin area schools, and it has been profiled by the Austin American-Statesman in Xlent and Ahora Si; and WHEREAS, The students and staff involved with St. Edward's University Folklorico and Mariachi groups may take great pride in their efforts to maintain cultural activities as an integral part of the college experience while also helping to preserve the Mexican ethnic traditions that so enrich the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the St. Edward's University Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi groups on the occasion of their third and first anniversaries and extend to all those associated with these organizations best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for St. Edward's University as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
