R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of McAllen lost a beloved friend and
neighbor with the untimely passing of James W. Van Burkleo, Jr., on
February 19, 2005, at the age of 52; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 16, 1952, Mr. Van Burkleo attended
The University of Texas--Pan American, where he was a member of the
Pan Am Broncs basketball squad; he later joined his father in
business at Van Burkleo Motors, where he became president and CEO;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Van Burkleo lent his talents to a number of
professional organizations, including the boards of the Valley
Automobile Dealers Association, the Texas Auto Dealers
Association, the Lincoln Mercury Dealer Advertising Committee, and
the National Dealer Council for Lincoln Mercury; he also served
with distinction on the board of the local Better Business Bureau
and the executive board of the McAllen Economic Development
Corporation, and his efforts helped to further the endeavors of the
Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the Salvation Army, the American Cancer
Society, and the United Way; and
WHEREAS, A man of diverse interests, he enjoyed golf,
cheering on The University of Texas Longhorns, fishing at South
Padre Island, traveling, and above all else, spending time with his
beloved wife and children; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Bill Van
Burkleo will long remember his zest for life and his love of his
family and community; although he will be greatly missed, his
legacy will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly
blessed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of James W. Van Burkleo, Jr., and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
Christine; to his children, Brittany and Brandon Van Burkleo and
Kathryn and Patrick Bason; to his parents, James and Dorinda Van
Burkleo; to his brothers, Terry and his wife, Patti, and Pat and his
wife, Andrea; to his sister, Dee Ann Payne and her husband,
Marshall; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James W.
Van Burkleo, Jr.
