R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Southeast Texas are visiting the State Capitol on March 7, 2005, marking the fourth occasion on which this notable organization has traveled to Austin to explore ways to further strengthen and transform the region in which its members live; and WHEREAS, Leadership Southeast Texas (LSET) is a program of the Partnership of Southeast Texas, which includes the counties of Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, and Tyler and the Bolivar Peninsula of Galveston County; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1992, the initiative is designed to identify and motivate leaders in the Southeast Texas region and to provide opportunities for participants to hone their abilities and learn ways to promote economic vitality; the program promotes a better understanding of the dynamics of Southeast Texas, including those relating to economic development, regional unity, and quality of life; and WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Southeast Texas also find and implement innovative approaches to issues affecting ongoing area business development and have opportunities to communicate with state leaders in both professional and social settings; and WHEREAS, Today, this outstanding venture boasts more than 500 graduates, many of whom are putting their new skills to work in 65 cities in Texas as well as in other communities across the nation and several foreign countries; current class participants number 55 and include civic leaders, executives, and business owners; representing a cross-section of the region, their interests are diverse and range from business and manufacturing to local government, chambers of commerce, nonprofits, and more; and WHEREAS, Former and present members of Leadership Southeast Texas may reflect with pride on the group's distinguished record of achievement and its significant contributions to the betterment of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 7, 2005, as Leadership Southeast Texas Day at the State Capitol and commend the group for its important work.
