R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Former Dallas City Council member Glenn Eckley Box
died on February 17, 2005, at the age of 46, and his untimely
passing has left a void in the hearts of his family members and many
friends; and
WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Mr. Box was born on November 9,
1958, and was a standout football and baseball player at W. T. White
High School; he attended Southern Methodist University, and when
his collegiate football career was plagued by injuries, he
refocused his energies on politics after taking a summer job with
Representative Jim Collins; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Box went on to receive a law degree from The
University of Texas at Austin and joined the Dallas law firm of
Jackson & Walker, where he practiced real estate and municipal law;
in 1987, he was appointed to the Dallas Plan Commission, and it was
during this time that he decided to run for the Dallas City Council;
and
WHEREAS, Elected to the council at age 30, Mr. Box served
three terms from 1989 to 1995 and distinguished himself as a leader
who focused on public safety issues; and
WHEREAS, Employed by Coca-Cola Enterprises since 1996, Mr.
Box was regional vice president of sales in 11 midwestern states;
and
WHEREAS, Glenn Eckley Box devoted many years of his life to
public service and civic leadership; a man of strong faith, he was a
devoted husband, father, and son, and although he is missed by those
who were privileged to know him, his memory will live on in their
hearts for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glenn Eckley Box and
extend sincere sympathy to his family members: to his wife, April
Box; to his sons, William Eckley Box and Travis Brunetti Box; to his
mother, Alma Box; to his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and
Justin Taylor; to his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Allison
Box; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glenn
Eckley Box.
