R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members and friends of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Austin are celebrating the 85th anniversary of the church's founding on June 26, 2005; and WHEREAS, The congregation traces its roots to February 1920, when a small group of committed Christians organized in the home of Deacon J. Johnson; the following year, members began worshipping in a frame building located at 2314 East Eleventh Street, and this location has remained the church home, although the building has undergone renovation and the grounds have been expanded with additional acreage; and WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church has sought to serve its members and neighbors in the wider community; to that end, the church has developed a Sunday school, a Baptist Training Union, and a mission program supporting district, state, and national projects; further, congregants participate in Bible study, prayer ministry, choirs, and a food ministry; and WHEREAS, Today, Elder Lawrence O. Perry continues the legacy of exceptional pastoral leadership that has enriched the church since its founding; called to the pulpit of Pilgrim Rest in 2002, Pastor Perry shares his wisdom and guidance with congregants, and his unwavering faith has uplifted the hearts of many; and WHEREAS, Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church has been a blessing in the lives of countless Texans, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church on this special occasion in its rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Austin on the 85th anniversary of the church's founding and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
