R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, March 6-12, 2005, is Black Church Week of Prayer for
the Healing of AIDS, and this notable endeavor, which is sponsored
by the Black Church Outreach Project (BCOP) of the Austin/Travis
County Health and Human Services Department, helps promote HIV/AIDS
education and awareness; and
WHEREAS, The largest AIDS awareness program targeting the
African American community, Black Church Week of Prayer for the
Healing of AIDS reaches an estimated 2.5 million church members
nationwide, enabling BCOP to better achieve its goals of informing,
educating, and empowering the community with respect to HIV/AIDS
health issues; and
WHEREAS, Highlighting this weeklong effort to raise
awareness in Austin is a citywide observance taking place on the
evening of March 10, 2005, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church;
and
WHEREAS, This important initiative draws on the vital support
of a number of community partners and collaborators, including
Healthy Connections Mobile Health Van, AIDS Services of Austin,
Interfaith Care Alliance, LifeWorks, The Wright House Wellness
Center, and many additional agencies and organizations; and
WHEREAS, Citizens rely on the critical contributions made by
these and other health services providers, and the Black Church
Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS continues to have a positive
impact on the lives of many Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 6-12, 2005, as Black Church Week
of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS and commend the many individuals
who have contributed to this significant event.
