H.R. No. 685
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert R. Ivany was inaugurated as the eighth
president of the University of St. Thomas in Houston on January 25,
2005; and
WHEREAS, Before joining UST in July 2004, Dr. Ivany enjoyed a
highly successful, 34-year career in the United States Army, where
he attained the rank of major general; his numerous assignments
included postings as an armored cavalry officer, as army aide to
President Ronald Reagan, as an advisor to officials in Hungary,
Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait on the modernization of their military
forces, and as commanding general of the Military District of
Washington, in which capacity he oversaw seven installations in
three states and the District of Columbia; he concluded his
military service as commandant, from 2000 to 2003, of the U.S. Army
War College; and
WHEREAS, This decorated officer subsequently joined the
faculty of the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University
as an adjunct professor in executive education; during his
association with Columbia, he worked with senior executives from
American- and British-based corporations and with officials of the
Canadian Forces College; and
WHEREAS, Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Ivany earned a
bachelor's degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in
1969 and later received a doctorate in modern European history from
the University of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, The University of St. Thomas has been eminently
fortunate to find in Dr. Ivany a president who brings to its helm
incisive leadership, broad experience, and a deep commitment to the
mission of that institution, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor
him at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Robert R. Ivany on the occasion
of his inauguration as president of the University of St. Thomas and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Ivany as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
