R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to join the citizens of Mills County in the celebration of Mills County Day at the State Capitol on March 10, 2005; and WHEREAS, Located in the center of the state, Mills County offers residents and visitors a picturesque setting that includes the Colorado River, Pecan Bayou, Cowhouse Mountains, and landmark San Saba peak; and WHEREAS, Spanned by the Regency Swinging Bridge, which connects Mills County and San Saba County, the Colorado River provides superb fishing, hunting, and recreation opportunities; and WHEREAS, Mills County has a prominent agricultural economy supported by farm equipment manufacturing, the raising of sheep, beef cattle, hogs, and goats, and the farming of small grains, sorghum, forage, and pecans; and WHEREAS, Home to the Mills County Meat Goat Association and recognized as one of the leading producers and sellers of goat meat in Texas, Mills County plays host to four sanctioned goat meat shows each year and numerous goat raiser sales, taking in hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and attracting people from across the nation, as well as from Canada and South Africa; and WHEREAS, Goldthwaite, its county seat, is the hometown of renowned University of Texas Lady Longhorns basketball coach, Jody Conradt; also in Mills County are the towns of Mullin, Priddy, and Star, communities that make ideal places to live for many families and retirees; and WHEREAS, Residents of Mills County are making a notable contribution to the Lone Star State, and it is indeed appropriate to take this opportunity to honor them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 10, 2005, as Mills County Day at the State Capitol and extend warmest best wishes to the citizens of Mills County for a memorable visit.
