R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Gordon E. Stone of Quitman is celebrating the momentous occasion of his 80th birthday on March 12, 2005, marking a significant milestone in his long and happy life; and WHEREAS, Born on March 12, 1925, Mr. Stone valiantly served his country in World War II as a member of the 11th Airborne, 187 Infantry Regiment, stationed in Japan; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan married Alice Olson on June 4, 1949, and the happy pair have been blessed with three children, Greg, Todd, and Karen, as well as nine grandchildren; and WHEREAS, In 1976, Mr. Stone purchased Semi-Tech, Inc., an optical supply business, and moved it to Garland seven years later; following its sale in 1992, he retired and has since enjoyed traveling with his family around the world; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Stone has worked tirelessly to better his community, contributing to a host of civic and charitable organizations in Dallas and Garland, including the Garland Chamber of Commerce, the Garland Symphony, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and summer musicals in both cities; moreover, he remains a vital member of his church; and WHEREAS, Gordon Stone is a source of great joy and inspiration to all who are privileged to know him, and it is indeed a pleasure to join him in celebrating eight decades of a life well lived; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Gordon E. Stone on his 80th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Stone as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
