R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Hector X. Samaniego, Sr., of San Antonio were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed physician on February 12, 2005, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, A graduate of El Paso High School, Dr. Samaniego studied at El Camino College, the University of Southern California, and The University of Texas at El Paso, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in biology and a minor in chemistry; during the Korean War, Dr. Samaniego served with distinction in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955; he then attended Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and graduated cum laude in December of 1960; and WHEREAS, Dr. Samaniego was a physician in San Antonio for more than 40 years; he joined Lutheran General Hospital in 1966 and worked 22 years there as chief of staff, vice president, and chairman of family practice; in 1988, he was appointed to serve as member-at-large of the Lutheran General medical staff; and WHEREAS, A man who loved golf, music, and sailing, he was a compassionate physician who contributed greatly to the community; he was also a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all with whom he shared his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Hector X. Samaniego, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Brigitte; to his son, Dr. Hector X. Samaniego, Jr.; to his daughters, Martha B. Samaniego, Christa A. Samaniego, and Carmen A. Samaniego; to his grandchildren, Catherine M. Herrera, Humberto Trevino, Andreas X. Samaniego-Clark, Karla Samaniego, Nicole Samaniego, Isabella Samaniego-Clark, and Michelle Samaniego; to his great-grandson, Duncan Ortega; to his sisters, Bertha S. Onopa-Rios and Irma S. Portillo; to his brothers, Ramon J. Samaniego and Rodolfo R. Samaniego; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Hector X.
