R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A bold and distinctive design by Arlington artist Daniel Miller was chosen for the commemorative Texas state quarter, which was issued in 2004 as part of the 50 State Quarters Program of the United States Mint; and WHEREAS, The 50 State Quarters Program is an unprecedented project by which the U.S. quarter's design is being changed five times each year for a 10-year period, from 1999 through 2008, in order to commemorate each of the 50 states; this program represents the first change to the quarter since production of the Bicentennial quarter in 1975-1976; and WHEREAS, The Texas coin was the 28th in the series of state quarters issued, just as Texas was the 28th state to join the union; Mr. Miller's design for the quarter features a lone star superimposed over a relief map of Texas, with a rope embossed along the coin's rim; state designs are displayed on the reverse of the quarters, while the obverse continues to display the familiar image of George Washington; and WHEREAS, Mr. Miller's design was chosen from among approximately 2,800 statewide entries by the Texas Quarter Dollar Coin Design Advisory Committee, a 15-member committee appointed by the governor, which then submitted its selection to the U.S. Mint Citizen Coin Advisory Committee for approval; and WHEREAS, An art director for Practitioners Publishing Company in Fort Worth, this gifted artist created a striking and memorable design that stands out as a symbol of Texans' spirit, courage, and determination; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Miller on the selection of his design for the commemorative Texas state quarter and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Miller as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
