R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lee Witt of the Arlington Police Department retired on February 28, 2005, drawing to a close an outstanding career in police work that spanned nearly 30 years; and WHEREAS, Since joining the Arlington Police Department on August 25, 1975, Officer Witt has served with distinction in the Patrol Division; he has specialized training in advanced accident investigations and high-pursuit driving and as a field training officer; he has trained other officers, assisted in developing a pursuit-driving class, and helped to start the Arlington Police Association; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Officer Witt has been called on to handle situations that few can imagine; whether convincing a grief-stricken mother to part with her mortally injured child, stopping a woman driving at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour with a young, unseatbelted child in her car, or being surprised by a live rattlesnake placed in an overnight bag to safeguard illicit drugs, this dedicated professional has seen it all and inspired others with his compassion, quick thinking, and sheer bravery; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Officer Witt has enjoyed the support of his high school sweetheart and wife of 31 years, Cynthia, and his sons Cliffton Lee and Pete Cliffton; and WHEREAS, Officer Witt has served the city of Arlington with integrity and dedication, earning the lasting respect of all who have been privileged to work with him; as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in his life, it is a pleasure to honor him for his exemplary career; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Lee Witt on his retirement from the Arlington Police Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Officer Witt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
