R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, W. V. "Buster" Curry of Angleton has demonstrated exceptional generosity, devotion, and compassion for others during his 94 years on this earth, and his actions have truly set an example for citizens of Brazoria County, and indeed all residents of the Lone Star State, to emulate; and WHEREAS, Granddaddy BACH, as he is affectionately known, has been a driving force for the Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps for more than 30 years, raising the majority of funds needed for the organization's current facility and recently donating $100,000 of his own money to match the $1 million already raised for future expansion; and WHEREAS, Over the past six decades, Mr. Curry has distinguished himself in the community in many ways, including as mayor of Freeport, commissioner for the Brazos Harbor Navigation District, chairman of the board of Community Hospital, president of the Lions Club, member of the executive committee of the Brazoria County Fair Association, president of the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce, president of the Methodist Men's Club, and committee member for the United Way; and WHEREAS, His outstanding service has earned him a host of accolades, such as his selection by the Rotary Club as Rotarian of the Year, by the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce as Man of the Year, by the Brazoria County Peace Officers Association as Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and by the United Way as the William D. Colegrove Volunteer of the Year; inducted by Junior Achievement into the Brazoria County Business Hall of Fame, he is also a recipient of the Jane Long Pioneer Spirit Award; and WHEREAS, Among Mr. Curry's seemingly endless list of accomplishments are the laughter he has brought to wheelchair-bound children as he treated them to a boat ride down the San Bernard River and the enjoyment he has given senior citizens living in local nursing homes as he and his fellow musicians in the BACH Boosters Band performed for them every Tuesday night for the past 30 years; reaching countless individuals behind the scenes as well, he has quietly provided for those down on their luck, anonymously donating medical equipment and helping out wherever he saw a need going unmet; and WHEREAS, Finding his greatest reward in easing the burdens of others and benefiting the community he has helped to shape, Buster Curry has proven with each project he has taken on that one person can make a profound difference in the world, and he continues to inspire all who are privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor W. V. "Buster" Curry for the wealth of contributions he has made to the people of Brazoria County and commend him on his bighearted approach to life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Curry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
